Behind The Scenes at the Beautiful Gingery Home

The trip to Wannabehippie’s home turned out to be a real treat for the Totally Unprepared team. Elaine and Mark live with their two daughters in a beautiful home designed by famed architect Rob Wellington Quigley. Their house was designed by him in the late 70’s before Quigley had become famous. It was completed in 1981. The Gingery family has lived there since 2004, and their youngest daughter Anya was born here.

Originally built for a pair of musicians, the house features lofty cathedral ceilings and sweeping canyon vistas. Its acoustics are wonderful. Being a musical family themselves, the Gingerys regularly hold concerts in their home. It was a very fun place to film!

Susan loved the girls’ bedroom, painted in her favorite color, purple. Lily, the older of the two girls chose it originally. She’s kind of over it, but her little sister Anya just loves it, so purple it stays for now.

In all, we felt lucky to be able to spend a couple of days filming in such a beautiful setting. It was wonderful to find such a graceful oasis in bustling San Diego, and it has inspired me to seek out Quigley’s other projects in California.
