Know What to Do in an Earthquake? Did You Drop, Cover, and Hold On?

David Harmon, our Earthquake Preparedness Hero of the Week

There are lots of things you could do in response to an earthquake, but the one thing you should do is drop, cover, and hold on.

The earthquake that struck Virginia on August 23, 2011 took everyone surprise.

In spite of that, one resident of Chantilly, Virginia showed incredible presence of mind when the earthquake hit. David Harmon was filming a commercial for G&C Tire and Auto.

Guess what he did during the earthquake? He dropped to the ground, pulled the easy chair over his head as best he could, and held on till the shaking stopped. That lamp could have knocked him out. How cool that he knew to drop, cover, and hold on!

If we did not know any better, we’d think he was doing a commercial for smart earthquake preparedness. The dude’s quick on his feet. Now, I wonder if he’s got an earthquake kit? With a little preparation, and his mad DCHO skills, he’s set to survive and recover quickly after a quake.
