Is This The One Thing That is Missing From Your Quake Kit?

Will your post-earthquake recovery experience be marred by a caffeine headache? If you plan ahead, it won’t happen.

In our continuing efforts to get you prepared for the next big earthquake, we have offered all sorts of instructions and lists to help you survive an earthquake unharmed.  We tried to think of everything.

We’ve covered what you will need if power, water, and all services are out for several days.   We’ve explained how to secure furniture, valuables.   And of course we’ve told you how to drop, cover and hold on. We even offered a few ideas on caring for pets, planning for your children, and making sure your home is secured.

In all likelihood you will make it through unscathed, but what about after the earthquake?  How effectively will you recover from the experience?  Do you have special  needs/requirements that you must address in your earthquake kit?

• Addicted to caffeine?
• Need insulin?
• Allergic to nuts?  Bees?
• Have asthma?
• Suffer low blood sugar?
• Like to read the news on your phone?
• Books?
• Have a favorite snack?
• Need glasses to read?
• Earplugs?
• Prone to sunburn?

We all have unique needs that won’t necessarily be met by the contents of an out-of-the-box emergency kit.  So please take a few minutes to think about what you yourself will not be able to live without in that first 72 hours.   Be sure you have up-to-date medications, sun protection, and anything else that you cannot do without.

Don’t let a caffeine headache spoil your post-earthquake day.
