If you own an entertainment center, it’s probably the biggest piece of furniture in your home.
You don’t want the biggest piece of furniture you own to fall on you, do you? It probably cost a pretty penny too.
While there may be a sartorial thrill in watching your biggest and most expensive piece of furniture come crashing to the ground during an earthquake, your living room will be so much easier to navigate if your entertainment center is anchored to the wall.
Here’s how you do it.
TOOLS:
stud-finder
pencil
drill or screw driver
alcohol wipes (check the strap box)
2 nylon earthquake furniture straps designed for heavy furniture
a footstool or stepladder
HOW TO SECURE AN ENTERTAINMENT CENTER TO THE WALL FOR AN EARTHQUAKE :
Locate wall studs behind entertainment center using stud finder and mark with a pencil.
Attach furniture straps to marked wall studs using drill or screw-driver.
Figure out where you want to attach the furniture straps to the entertainment center.
If you’re using velco straps, wipe the area down with alcohol and let it dry.
Attach furniture straps to entertainment center with at least an inch and a half of give to allow for shaking.
Use two furniture straps at either edge for even weight distribution.
