Secure Your Home For An Earthquake
A strong earthquake can make your home unstable. You and your family will get out fine, as long as no bookcase falls on your heads (ehem, Carolyn!) But your house can shake itself to instability if the exterior walls and floor are not properly reinforced. And then after it does, you’ll have to move. Who wants to move? Like attaching your home to its foundation, shear wall installation and ground floor reinforcement is a job for a licensed contractor. Crawlspaces and soft stories are an excellent place to start when considering securing your home. Some cities even provide tax incentives to retrofit your property!
